Things are going pretty well. It still feels sort of like this isn't really my apartment, and I am going to go back to my old house, but I'm getting used to it. So far, living together hasn't been that strange. I'm adjusting pretty well.

I'm almost done unpacking everything, with the exception of about five or six boxes that I don't have any idea of where to put. Then I have about twenty boxes that have all of my teaching crap in them, but they will soon be at school. It's been sort of annoying because I haven't been able to get into my room yet, due to floor waxing issues. I will probably be able to on Monday.

I survived the new teacher orientation. Some of it was useless, but it was okay overall. I got to meet tons of new teachers, and I felt a little shy and insecure, but I was able to talk and get to know people a little bit. I'm not going to worry about making friends, because hopefully it will just happen naturally. I am a little unsure about the people on my team. I love the team leader, she is so sweet, but some of the other people I am not sure what to think. I am just trying not to have any pre judgements based on first impressions. Particularly about the teacher that will be teaching in the classroom attached to mine. That's all I am going to say about that, because I am taking my own advice to my students who complain--"Have a positive attitude and an open mind!"

I really have no clue what I am doing yet, but hopefully I can get that all figured out soon. At least this isn't my first teaching job. Some of the other new teachers seemed completely frightened.

Luckily, my initial impressions of the principal and vice principals remain the same. They all seem very positive, and teacher and student friendly. I think they will be good to work for, and that makes all of the difference.

Elizabeth came to visit this weekend to see the new apartment, and she gave us the nicest housewarming present from her and Mark. I was so touched. They gave us martini glasses, a shaker and other things to make mixed drinks, and a bottle of Bacardi Rum. I thought that was so sweet because I was talking about wanting to get those things the last time I was over there. They have this bar set where they can make exotic mixed drinks and I thought it would be fun to have for when I had guests over. Anyway, we made lemon drops and attempted to make mojitos. It was hard to get that exactly right, but I thought the lemon drops were good. I could tell they spent a lot of money on the gifts, too, and I thought that was really thoughtful. They might be coming over on Wednesday or Thursday of next week, too. I am just trying to have as much fun as I can before school starts. It is really nice to have friends.

I also am going to go see Uptown Girls this afternoon with Elizabeth. I hope it is good.

Portland just got Krispy Kreme recently, so Justin and I got a dozen donuts. Usually when I go there when I am in another state, I get one or two. I have a particular favorite one. But somehow we decided to get a dozen. I really don't think we should ever do that again, because that means that I am eating six donuts. Actually, seven because they give you a free one when you come in when the Krispy Kreme has just opened. Anyway, the donuts are good and everything, but people around here had been acting crazy. I don't know if I mentioned this already, but when it first opened the lines were so long that they had police escorts directing traffic. Yeah, I said police escorts. For Krispy Kreme donuts.

I'm wondering what kind of job Justin is going to get. He still has some financial aid money left but I doubt it will last long. I am trying not to bug him about it because obviously he has to get a job at some point.

I am trying to decide if I should eat my third donut of the day. I guess I will.
